BEL: The Chapter That Isn't Written Yet

Apologies for the lack of update guys. RL has thoroughly gotten in the way. Add to that a really crappy weekend and it's aftermath and I just don't have the time, will or inclination to write at the moment. Chapter 26 will be with you soon, but I can't tell you when. I can assure you that if I get a few hours to sit and write it then I will, but that's as much as I can promise for right now.

BEL: In Which There is Much Double-Crossing

What would a good mystery story be without the old double-double-cross? There are so many people playing for different sides here, but there are two looking out specifically for themselves. One, with the deluded intent of keeping the girl he believes he loves safe; the other, taking advantage of any and all situations, with purely selfish reasons.

The two combined could be deadly.

However, regardless of their faith in their own abilities, the other team has a few tricks up their sleeves, including a so far unmentioned covert branch. That's right folks, another player is being brought in.

BEL: The Chapter About Goldilocks and the Bear

We already know that Emmett is some kind of vampire-ninja-uber spy, but we haven't really seen him in action yet, other than trying to help Jasper. As for Rose, all we really know about her is what we've learned from Emmett and that she too considered planting the razorblade.

I thought it was time to get her perspective on a few things, see what she thinks of what's going on around her and try to figure out where she fits in. Also, who doesn't love Emmy bear?

This chapter is pivotal because these two have almost as far to go as Bella and Jasper, but for a very different reason. If you've been following closely, this chapter will tell you who they're both working for and where they're headed next. If not, you're going to have to wait a bit longer to find out what they're really up to. Though we'll be hearing from Rose again next chapter.

The key point at the moment is the phonecalls. Bella received one and made one to Peter; Edward made one; Rose received one; but it's all confused by the time overlap... who's calling whom? And more importantly, why?

What is Rose really up to? Why is she heading back to Forks? Is she the reinforcements sent in by Peter? Or does she have a darker plan in mind? It all hinges on that phonecall...

BEL: The Chapter in Which The Villain Returns

Yup, Eddie's back and he's as deluded as ever, with a side of barking mad. *snickers*

The chapter is a little jumbled, just like his head and he's starting to unravel just a tad. Deluded, dangerous and in denial is a bad combo. Now he's adding an unhealthy dose of rage to the mix. Where will it take him?

I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions.

In other news, I've decided to move to a fortnightly posting schedule. Next posting will be 19th April and every other Tuesday after that. I know there are a lot of you who love the weekly updates and during the winter it was fine to do them, but now it's spring, my day job needs more of my time, and my beta & pre-reader need a bit more breathing space while the nice weather is about so the kids can get outside and do stuff.

BEL: The Chapter in Which The Lion Gets His Courage Back

This latest chapter rounds off the Bella/Jasper section and brings us a glimpse of the new and improved version Jasper.

Yes, my 'Jasper' is much more fragile than most. But don't forget this one is not 'Jasper the Major'; he is Jasper and the Major as two separate entities. Jasper is overly sensitive, The Major is overly aggressive. What we're working towards here is fusing the two split personalities back together.

That's where Bella comes in. She is his tethered mate, which basically means she's everything he needs and vice versus. She will be the one who helps him literally heal his broken pieces and put them back together.

As the God of War aka Ol' Red Eyes, his third personality or 'demon' he is the ultimate bad ass (yes, he'll be putting in an appearance), but it is not uncommon for overly dominant men like that to be submissive to their partners. For 'Jasper', Bella is his sanctuary. For 'The Major', she is his General, his partner in crime. What will she be for Ol' Red Eyes? Only time will tell, but it's going to be a treat.

BEL: The Chapter in Which A Skeleton is Unearthed

Last week we found out what the big deal was about the collar. This week we're going to see Bella's side of the equation and Jasper will be revealing his final skeleton.

I've received a few comments along the lines of 'it's nice to see Maria isn't portrayed as the bad guy.' Don't confuse her (at least former) love for Jasper with her role in the story. If simply loving Jasper meant she was a 'good guy', then Edward would be a 'good guy' too because he loves Bella. Or at least thinks he does. And we all know Team Edward is not whiter than white here.

It's important to note that, at this point we have no idea where Maria's loyalties lie. Jasper says they loved each other very much and their relationship, however warped and twisted it was, proves that there was at one time a massive amount of trust there. He has also said that she would be too damned scared to do anything but be loyal to him, in case he came after her. But then, he said Alice was loyal and none of you believed that, did you?

That said, it's important that you don't automatically paste Maria as 'team evil' just because she hurt Jasper, as some of you - you know who you are - did with Alice.

I've said it before and I say it again. 'Good' and 'Evil' are too finite for this story. There is no black and white only a scale of grey that each and every one of the characters is constantly moving up and down; even Bella and Jasper.

Where does that leave Maria? Form your own opinions, decide where you think she would be now based on her former relationship with Jasper. And if any of you figure out where she's at right now, I'll be impressed.

Also, a few people queried the tethered mates thing in ch20 and this is part of the explanation. Bella is his missing piece and as such will always do what is right for him and vice versus. Maria was just another lost half missing her tether, and they helped each other out. We'll find out more about Maria later.

BEL: The Chapter in Which A Lot is Revealed

A few of you had some choice words for me last week because you were hoping for some J/B action and I slipped some crusty old Volturi history in instead. So I'm making it up to you now.

This week we're back with Jasper and a few have commented that he's been a bit week willed and listless lately. He has, and with good reason. He's been through a lot lately and he might be a bad ass son of a bitch, but he's an empath too; too much at once has taken it's toll. In the last 3 weeks he's discovered that half his family may, or may not, be working for the Volturi, had both The Major and Ol' Red Eyes resurface, found his real mate, been collared, had a moment of indecision at the party where he moved to protect Bella from Edward only to find Edward protecting Bella from him, felt unworthy of being her guardian and torn his collar off, been divorced by the woman he loved and discovered that his brother, Peter, knows not only Charlie but also Bella.

He's in a fragile place at the moment, with one emotional breakdown already under his belt. Now he has to come clean with Bella and has no idea how she's going to take the news, because his gift is on the fritz from all the emotional upheaval of the last few days.

Jasper needs to get back to his happy place and return to being the sexy, smartass soldier we all know and love. But before he can do that, he's going to have to clear a few skeletons out of the closet.

In other news, BEL made it to 1000 reviews this past week! I'm stoked! Thank you so much, you guys, for spurring me on in this little endeavour. Without you, I would still write BEL; but with you, it's much more fun.

BEL: The Chapter in Which The Volturi Finally Make an Appearance

I know, I know, it's been a long time coming hasn't it? But with all the double crossing and hoo-hahing about, we needed to at least have a vague idea of who's doing what with whom, right?

Now that we know that a) Alice is #TeamJasper-Bella and that b) she is working for Stefan, one of the Romanian coven,  it's best to clear up where the Volturi stand right now in all this.

Will we discover new allies? New deceptions? Big honking clues as to WTF is really going on and how it ties Jasper and Bella together in a legend that, as yet, makes no sense?

Absolutely.

Will you leave with more questions that you arrived with?

BEL: The Chapter in Which I Say 'I Told You So'

Two things needed clearing up asap and this is the chapter in which that will happen.

Point, the First: Charlotte. Lots of speculation that she's defected, or working behind Peter's back; that maybe she planted the razor blade (nope, sorry, she didn't), or that she's just not being featured in the story all that much.
*snorts*
Like Peter would let that happen!

This chapter will tell us where Charlotte was during the party and why she wasn't in Forks. If you reviewed, I hinted in spoilers that she had been doing something very important. You're about to find out what.

Point, the Second: Alice. I'm only going to say this once. Y'all need to start reading the story I'm writing and not the one you think it is based on all the other Jasper/Bella fics you've read. I said from  the beginning that Alice is not 'evil'.

 Chapter 6 - Jasper“You have to trust me Bella when I say that I trust Alice. Along with Peter and Char, I trust her with my life. There is no way she’s involved with the Volturi in any way. Now I’m not sayin’ that she might not be helpin’ Edward somehow. But I honestly think it’s more likely that he plucks information from her head whenever he can that’s useful to him. Alice is a devious, manipulative, conniving bitch, with very little conscience, who can fabricate visions at the drop of a hat and withholds information as and when she sees fit. But she’s my devious, manipulative, conniving bitch. She’s loyal to me. I even know how she works around her visions to prevent Eddie boy pickin’ her brains because she told me. I know more about her gift than she does, which is how I’m able to get around it.”

Now, once you read this chapter maybe you'll understand that a bit more.

On the one hand, there's the 'Alice is an evil bitch' brigade, who think she somehow managed to keep Jasper against his will, but then in the same breath claim Jasper is smart and would know she'd done it. Then there's the other four of you, who actually feel sorry for Alice and realise that she and Jasper really do love each other. No, they're not mates, but that doesn't mean they can't have been in love all these years.

That is my Alice rant over. Anyone who still doesn't believe Alice is #TeamJasper after this is obviously not reading the story I'm writing. On with the show.

So allthe big plans huh? Thank you so much to everyone who joined in the fun and games. I can tell you that:

BEL: The Chapter You've All Been Waiting For...

No, it's not the end. Don't worry, we're a very long way from that yet.

But for those who have been eagerly awaiting their opportunity to put all the clues together and figure out 'Who Dunnit', this is the chapter you've been waiting for.

It's been difficult to decide exactly who's on Jasper and Bella's side and who isn't. Maybe this chapter will clear a few things up, maybe it won't. But you'll come out of it with a clear idea of who you think is the most likely candidate. Perhaps you'll think it's the person you've thought all along; perhaps you'll find a new suspect; perhaps you'll decide that what you thought you knew is all wrong and go back to chapter one to search for 'evidence'.

However you decide, please let me know what you think. As always, reviews means spoilers, but reviewers who get it right, will get a mega spoiler that could change the way you view the whole story. Also, for those with TwiWrite membership, there's a forum thread in the author's corner; if any of you want to discuss your views there, you're more than welcome. You can also post your views here if you like. I'd love to know who you think the guilty party is.

Tuesday Trailer: Behind Enemy Lines, Ch11

Chapter 11 - '... And Your Enemies Closer'

The story so far: Unknown to the Cullens, the Major is back in town. We now know that Jasper's fears about Carlisle and Edward working for the Volturi are real, but that Edward has other plans for Bella than her becoming a vampire. Jasper has recognised his 'mate' but won't ditch Alice, however, we know that Alice is planning to leave him, stepping aside for his real mate; Bella. It's been 3 weeks since Jasper saw Bella, he presumes Edward is keeping her away from him, but he's been able to get some work done on the 'history project'. Now, it's Monday morning and we return to Bella's POV after her weekend with Jasper; it's back to school time for our heroine. 

I tried not to grimace when I saw Mike Newton approaching me from across the lot before I had even left the truck. I had hoped that since he hooked up with Jessica Stanley over the summer that he would finally stop giving me the puppy eyes but, judging by his current expression, that particular hope was in vain. Fortunately, I was saved from facing him at all by my friend, Angela Webber, who was towing an embarrassed looking boy behind her. I assumed it to be her new boyfriend, Ben.

“Bella! Long time no see!” she grinned, knowing full well that my entire summer had been as Edward-centric as hers had been Ben-centric.

“Yeah, we should totally hook up one evening and catch up. I'm sure we both have news to share.” I gave her a pointed look and made a slight shift of my head in Ben's direction.

She grinned. “Absolutely. Do you want to meet for lunch and we can make plans for a girlie night in? I'm thinking comfy PJs, two pots of Ben & Jerry's, maybe some Johnny Depp...”

“Whoa, girl! You had me at the PJs.” Angela always knew how to make me smile.

“All we need is a day and a time then. How about Friday? We could have a sleep over.”

“Sounds good to me; we could head to your house straight after school?”

“Done,” she grinned at me. “It'll be so good to catch up again. I missed you over the summer, Bella.”

I nodded. “Me, too. Hey, I'd better get going or I'll be late for class. See you at lunch?”

I headed towards the main building and as I reached the steps, Edward appeared beside me.

“Good morning, Isabella.”

“Hey,” I reached up to kiss him but he pulled away, wrinkling his nose as if I smelled or something. I frowned. “What's that about? Haven't you hunted? Do I smell too delicious for you today?” I barely kept the sarcasm from my tone.

Edward gave what looked like a sneer but it vanished instantaneously. “You smell of him,” he hissed. “I would prefer it if you didn't.”

Good morning, Mr. Passive-Aggressive.

“Who, him?” I asked, knowing exactly what he was getting at but taking a mild delight in pushing him to say something.

Edward sighed dramatically. “You smell like... Jasper.” He spat his brother's name out like it was a dirty word or something. “I don't like it. I don't like the idea that he might have... touched you...” He turned his mouth up in distaste.

“I smell of him because I'm wearing his coat.” I scowled, annoyed by his attitude. I was sure he wouldn't be saying this if I was wearing Emmett's coat.

Maybe he knows that you and Jasper kissed?

No. He couldn't. The only person who could know anything is Alice and she hasn't said anything.

That is shaky proof at best. What if Jasper's mind slipped?

Jasper's too careful for that. Let's just be glad he can't read my mind too, shall we?

“I don't see why you need to wear his coat. If you need a new coat I will buy you one, Isabella. You're not a beggar.”

Miss the point much?

“I'm wearing Jasper's coat because I like it, it suits my style. Alice is always saying I should experiment with my wardrobe, so, consider me experimented. Besides, it smells really nice.” I only realised that I had buried my nose in the collar, taking a deep sniff of Jasper's scent, when I heard Edward growl. We walked the rest of the way to first class in silence. Apparently either Edward or Alice was in all my classes this year.

I Won! *happy dance*

Thank you SO much to everyone who voted for 'Behind Enemy Lines' in the Sparkleteers Awards. I won my Category - Diamond in the Rough: Most Original Storyline.

I am so inspired right now. I intend to continue posting once a week (every Tuesday) over Christmas. My poor beta's need a rest and time to drink some eggnog. I've been working them like slaves the last month!

My story was also part of #NaNoWriMo and I forgot to mention I 'won' that too. I finished on Nov 23rd, a full week ahead of schedule.
At this point I think we're about 1/4-1/3 through the story. Depends how much more I jig around with it before the end. I keep adding new story threads as I go, so might be a while before we're done!

I had just dropped Rosalie off at the pick up gate with our bags and driven the Porsche over to long term parking, when my cell phone rang.

“Hi Jazzy! We’ve just arrived at Sea-Tac and Emmett rang Rose to say he’ll be here in twenty minutes. We’ll be in Denali by nightfall and Carlisle, Esme and Edward should be there around midnight.”

There was a chuckle on the other end of the line. “Is there ever any point in me callin’ to tell you anything?”

“Not really. Though you do manage to surprise me sometimes,” I laughed.

“Well, just so I don’t feel like I wasted my credit, I’m going to tell you anyway. Edward is coming with you because Eleazar wants him to check out Laurent’s intentions toward Irina. I’ll be staying here with Bella, which I’m sure he won’t be happy about.”

“Actually, the whole Irina-Laurent thing is entirely Esme and Carmen’s idea in order to get Bella some space from Edward whose overprotective hounding is giving her cabin fever. Laurent is just using Irina, which is fine because she’s using him. Edward is going to be livid about you staying but don’t say anything, it’ll work out. You’ll need to remind Bella to eat around lunchtime or she’ll forget and take the scenic route on the 19/20 towards Anderson Lakes on the way back. You can hunt, Bella can nap and you’ll avoid a two hour tailback on the 104.”

There was silence from the other end of the phone as my corrections sank in then a familiar sigh. ”Anythin’ else I need to know”’

“I’ll miss you?” I replied sweetly as I pulled my lipstick from my bag and began to put on a fresh coat.

“I’ll miss you too sweetheart. I have to admit though…” he trailed off a little, searching for words that wouldn’t offend me.

“You’re looking forward to getting to know Bella because you find her interesting, and you’re ecstatic that you’ll finally have someone around to share your tedious taste in hobbies?”

Jasper chuckled again. “Yeah. Somethin’ like that.”

“Thanks for loaning me this book Jasper. You were right, it was a really interesting read.” She continued to smile, pushing more sincerity at me.

“You're welcome Bella. By all means, borrow any others from my study that interest you.” I returned her smile, tucking the book under my arm.

She hesitated momentarily then continued. “Oh, feel free to recommend something else. I've seen how many books you have. I wouldn't know where to start. Besides, I'm sure you'd rather I read something with as few historical inaccuracies as possible.”

Edward threw her an sharp look but she had already turned her attention towards Emmett, flopping down onto the floor beside him as she swiped the spare controller and proceeded to lose the first round squarely to her second favourite Cullen. Edward momentarily cocked his head in my direction, no doubt listening in to my thoughts, but I was already feigning boredom by then, translating the sonnets of Shakespeare into Mandarin. He frowned, huffed slightly, then returned his attention to Bella, leaving me to slip away to my study unhindered.

I was keen to work out why Bella had returned a book to me that wasn't mine.

I tried to concentrate on the game so as not to give myself away and it paid off when I actually won the third round against Emmett. He immediately swooped me up and began spinning me around the room as I cheered for myself and Edward shook his head at us, trying to contain the crooked smile that was creeping across his face. I was glad I had managed to finally beat Emmett at something, no matter how small, but even more so I was hugely relieved that his antics diverted the attention of the others away from the exchange between Jasper and myself just a short while before.

I was fairly certain that no one would think it was anything out of the ordinary but had been cautious just in case. We were both bookworms, so I hoped my borrowing a book from the silent Hale twin would not be seen as unusual and I had known Jasper would own books about the civil war from a heated discussion that followed a recent movie night. I had insisted we watch 'Gone With the Wind' and had been made aware of Jasper's interest in the period when Emmett began making fun of him for muttering under his breath about various historical inaccuracies. I had been unsure how to give the book to him until right before I walked in the door, when it had occurred to me that sending my emotions into over drive would probably get his attention. If he hadn't played along and pretended the book was his, I would have had to play it off as being a forgetful human moment, but he had taken the hint and followed my lead.

All I had to do now was wait patiently to see whether the answer was yes or no.
